Independent, employee-owned and Chartered insurance group continues national growth while remaining committed to its founding principles.

Brunel Group has once again been recognised among the UK’s leading insurance brokers, securing its place in the 2025 Top 100 UK Brokers ranking, published by Insurance Age in association with specialist consultancy Insuramore.

The recognition marks another significant milestone for the independent insurance and financial services group, which has continued to expand its national presence, specialist expertise and client base while remaining firmly committed to its independence.

Based on its own assessment of the UK broking market, Brunel Group believes it ranks among the country’s top ten largest independent insurance brokers.

Over 20 years of growth and independence

Founded in 2005 by Russell Lane, Brunel Group has grown from a specialist insurance brokerage into a national, multi-disciplinary insurance and financial services business.

Today, the Group operates through ten offices across the UK, providing specialist advice to businesses, professionals and private clients.

Brunel’s growth has been built on a commitment to providing genuinely independent advice, exceptional client service and access to the wider insurance market, without the restrictions of limited insurer panels.

The Group now comprises six specialist divisions:

• Brunel Insurance Brokers – Commercial and corporate insurance, together with specialist risk management solutions.

• Brunel PI Brokers – Professional indemnity insurance for professional firms and businesses.

• BrunelTech – Specialist insurance and risk advice for technology companies, start-ups and innovation-led businesses.

• Brunel Insurance for People – Personal insurance, including specialist private client cover.

• Brunel Employee Benefits – Corporate healthcare, employee benefits, group risk and workplace wellbeing solutions.

• Brunel Wealth & Financial Services – Wealth management, financial planning and advice for individuals and business owners.

Each division combines specialist expertise with the strength, resources and professional standards of the wider Brunel Group.

Proudly independent in a consolidating market

At a time when much of the UK insurance broking industry has experienced significant consolidation and private equity investment, Brunel has taken a different approach.

The Group remains independently owned by its directors and employees, with no private equity ownership or external corporate control.

This independence allows Brunel to focus on its clients, its people and the long-term development of the business, rather than the priorities of external investors.

Brunel Insurance Brokers also holds Chartered Insurance Broker status, awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute in recognition of its commitment to professional standards, technical expertise and ethical conduct.

Together, its independence, Chartered status and growing national presence distinguish Brunel within the UK insurance market.

A word from our founder

Russell Lane, Founder and CEO of Brunel Group, commented:

“When I founded Brunel in 2005, the ambition was to build a business that put clients first, gave genuinely independent advice and attracted some of the best people in our industry.

“Over twenty years later, we’ve grown into one of the UK’s leading insurance broking groups, but what matters most to me is that we’ve achieved that growth without losing the principles we started with.

“At a time when so much of our industry is being consolidated, we remain proudly independent, owned by the people who work in the business and committed to making decisions that are right for our clients, our colleagues and our long-term future.

“This recognition is a credit to everyone at Brunel. We’ve achieved a great deal, but we remain ambitious, and I’m incredibly excited about the next chapter.”

Looking to the future

Brunel Group’s continued growth reflects the expertise and commitment of its people, together with the longstanding relationships and trust it has built with clients across the UK.

Looking ahead, the Group will continue investing in its people, technology and specialist services, strengthening its ability to deliver high-quality, independent advice while maintaining the personal service on which the business was founded.
